Research on the Kuskokwim
Identifying what we know is essential for monitoring the health of the Kuskokwim. While a wealth of information exists in peer-reviewed studies, much of it is scattered across various databases and difficult to access. Recognizing this challenge, we saw the need to catalog and synthesize research on the Kuskokwim to make it more accessible.
Since January 2024, we have been collaborating with Georgetown University students to develop a searchable research catalog, which we aim to make available by Fall 2025. Through this partnership, students have had the opportunity to engage in applied research, learn about the Kuskokwim, and gain insight into the important work being done here. Their contributions have been invaluable in advancing this project. The students have also begun synthesizing data, creating a story map on caribou in the Kuskokwim region. We are currently working on another story map focused on methylmercury and subsistence foods in the area.
